Margaux Othats<\/a>\u00a0has been selected for LPE\u2019s fall\u00a02016 residency for francophone authors-illustrators. The\u00a0selection committee\u00a0included Marion Jablonski, Director \u2013 Albin Michel Jeunesse,\u00a0Marie-Laure Bernadac, museum curator, former head of Contemporary art at the Louvre museum and Dominique Haim, Honorary President of the non-for-profit Fiends of La Petite Escal\u00e8re.\u00a0In the video, Margaux makes us discover a particular area on the edge\u00a0of forest, which inspired\u00a0the narrative and visual development\u00a0her current book.<\/p>\n

Margaux Othats
\n<\/strong>Born in\u00a01989,\u00a0Margaux Othats grew\u00a0up in the Pyr\u00e9n\u00e9es. After a year at the\u00a0Bayonne Art School, she enters the\u00a0Arts D\u00e9coratifs School\u00a0in\u00a0Strasbourg and graduates in June 2013 with a focus on illustration. Her first book, La Chasse<\/em> (The Hunt)\u00a0was\u00a0published\u00a0by Magnani publisher in 2014 ; it was\u00a0included in\u00a0the Illustrated Book\u00a0Selection of\u00a0the 2014 Montreuil\u00a0Children\u2019s Books Fair. Her second book, Un jour dehors<\/em> (A Day Outside), also published by Magnani, will be released in April 2016. Othats\u00a0has\u00a0worked for newspapers and magazines (New York Times, XXI, Citrus, Kiblind). In her stories, characters are confronted with\u00a0landscapes, stones become sculptures, branches become tree houses, the wind carries everything away and the rain becomes a fierce opponent. Playing with books as objects \u2014 their\u00a0format, their handling, Othats\u2019\u00a0stories, developed in\u00a0minimalist drawings, are rites of passage\u00a0which explore themes such as separation, tenacity or emancipation.<\/p>\n

La Petite Escal\u00e8re<\/strong>
\n<\/a>The gardens of La Petite Escal\u00e8re host a large collection of modern and contemporary artwork. This private site allows a unique dialogue between sculpture and nature and is dedicated to promote creation, research and exchange around and about art and landscape.\u00a0Twice a year, La Petite Escal\u00e8re welcomes multidisciplinary artists and researchers \u2013 visual artists, writers, illustrators, exhibition curators\u2026 \u2013 for research and creation residencies, thus offering them a privileged setting to work on ongoing or new projects.
