Chillida in the Rijksmuseum Gardens

Rijksmuseum Gardens, Amsterdam (The Netherlands)

Until September 23rd, 2018

Guest curator: Alfred Pacquement

This summer, nine monumental sculptures by Spanish Basque artist Eduardo Chillida are exhibited at the gardens of Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum (Netherlands). A group of works that retraces thirty years of artistic production, from 1972 with Estela a Millares until the years 2000 with Consejo al espacio VIII. The exhibition features recurring themes of his work, such as the question of gravity and weight or the relationship between art, nature and public space. The selection of outdoor sculptures provides an opportunity to rediscover one of the sculptor’s most famous series, Peine del viento.

The gardens are opened every day from 9am to 6pm and access is free of charge.

Saison 2018 Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire

Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire, Centre d’Arts et de Nature, Chaumont-sur-Loire (France)

This year, the Domaine de Chaumont-sur-Loire, Centre d’Arts et de Nature, celebrates the 10th year of its « Saison d’art », an annual artistic program that takes place from the beginning of spring until fall. Since March, fifteen commissions and exhibitions celebrate this anniversary inside and outside the castle. The exhibition features Japanese artist Fujiko Nakaya with her fog sculptures in the Prés du Goualoup, German artist Nils-Udo’s “nest” or Eva Jospin’s Folie, which she created specifically for the historical park and for which she distanced herself from cardboard, her usual media, to experiment with cement.

Delirious Matter

Diana Al-Hadid

Madison Square Park, New York (United States)

Until September 2018

&

Bronx Museum, New York (États-Unis)

Until October 14th, 2018

Syrian-born American artist Diana Al-Hadid is currently displaying her first public art commission at Madison Square Park and is simultaneously exhibiting at the Bronx Museum in New York.

Six large-scale sculptures are installed on the lawns and fountains of Madison Square Park. The surface of the sculptures, that appears to be liquid and unstable, evokes the shapes of architectural ruins, “a blend between fresco and tapestry”, to quote the author. Diana Al-Hadid’s monumental works are fascinating because of their apparent fragility but also of their evocative power inspired by Arabic tales, biblical writings, classical painting or medieval churches.

Neuer Norden Zürich (Nouvelle Zurich Nord)

Zurich (Switzerland)

Until September 2nd, 2018

The Neuer Norden Zürich is a temporary outdoor exhibition project specifically designed for the districts of Schwamendingen, Oerlikon and Seebach, in the north area of Zurich. Organized by the city’s department of cultural affairs, this exhibition, curated by Christoph Doswald, presents forty works of art – large-scale sculptures, installations, posters and murals – installed in the public space, at times in unexpected and surprising places. This is the case, for example, of German artist Katinka Bock’s discreet interventions. Located in “non-sites” such as a bus stop or above a noise barrier, Katinka Bock’s works question the notions of “community” and of connection between individuals after the construction of a highway in this part of town. Or with Olafur Eliasson, who picked the roof of the Werkhof Zentrum Zürich North bus depot to install eight colored glass panels that, with the rays of the sun, form a rainbow on the ground. A fascinating visit to be experienced over several days.
