Sculpture is also for children. You Call That Art? is an unusual and playful way to introduce sculpture to children and even (why not?) to adults. Authors David A. Carter and James Diaz first provide an overview of the history of sculpture throughout the ages and then give the reader a closer look at ten of the most influential sculptors of the 20th century. But what makes this book truly original is how it invites you to create your very own sculpture. The book comes with an elegant box containing cardboard pieces that can be cut out and assembled to create six unique sculptures. Let imagination and creativity do the rest and you have your very own masterpiece!

This assembly method inspired by designers Ray and Charles Eames and their “House of Cards” game, consists in interlocking pieces through a system of slots, and provides a better understanding of sculpture and three-dimensional art pieces.

Not surprisingly, all this makes it hard for adults not to join the fun and to play with shapes, colors and movements. And this colorful hardcover book is in itself a lovely little sculpture, a nice object to have around and simply please the eye.
