The reopening of the Musée Maillol is scheduled for September 2016. Meanwhile, visitors can admire twenty of the artist’s most beautiful sculptures in the Carrousel Garden, which is tucked in between the Tuileries Garden and the Louvre Museum.

Most of these sculptures represent the body of a young woman which Maillol incessantly reinvented: that of Dina Vierny, the model who became his muse. She was only 15 years old when Maillol met her. She ended up inspiring him until the end of his life. She inherited his work and spent her life promoting it. In 1964, twenty years after Maillol’s death, the sculptures, which Dina Vierny donated to the French government, were installed in the Tuileries under André Malraux’s initiative, then Minister of Cultural Affairs.

La Rivière, La Montagne, L’Air, Venus, Méditerranée, Baigneuse à la draperie, l’Été, La Nuit, and many more… The magic of this wonderful collection comes from the subtle balance between strength, energy, and the marvelous sensuality which emanate from each one of these sculptures.
