From February 23 to June 23, 2019, British artist Phyllida Barlow will present a series of new works in the Gabrielle Jungels-Winkler Galleries of the Royal Academy of Arts (London). The title of the exhibition echoes the exhibition spaces: three adjoining galleries which end in a cul-de-sac, a dead-end that forces visitors to turn around in order to exit. This “guided” stroll greatly intrigues the artist who sees here the possibility of taking a new look at the works. Phyllida Barlow’s often monumental sculptural interventions reinvent the narration of the spaces they occupy and question a past temporality through the use of humble materials such as cardboard or plaster, which evoke ruins and almost forgotten places.
